A CONNECTION SHARED! By Chris Nicol, head teacher.  Covid and Lockdown has most definitely changed how we have been able to connect with our Kindergarten children and whānau!  Distance Learning and Zoom Mat-times will never replace the joy of teaching but has enabled us to keep some precious communication lines open. As Lockdown lingered, we looked for creative ways to stay close to our families and created a "Gallery in the Garden!" The children shared a photo of their family to display in our Community Garden so that we could celebrate in a small way, the special connection between Kindergarten and family. The family photos looked wonderful and the children loved seeing the photos of their friends, Toto (the Kindergarten rabbit), the teachers and of course their own family!

As a teaching team, we loved preparing the display and while we haven't been able to see some of our Kindergarten whānau for quite a while now... it was special creating an event for our kindergarten families to come together (with social distancing and masks). Whanaungatanga, which is all about relationships, has been very different in the current Covid climate and we are looking forward to seeing everyone soon! Our Community Garden is the result of many years of fundraising by many of the amazing families and Committee that have been part of Rangitoto Kindergarten. The initial building of the Community Garden took place just before Covid Lockdown in 2020, we would love the support of any avid gardeners if you would like to become involved.
