Hello and welcome to the Mairangi Bay business Association team for the year ahead. I wish to thank our outgoing Chairman Paul Dymond for the excellent work and achievements during his time as Chairman and wish him the best as he moves on to new adventures, and introduce myself as the new Chairman, Malcolm Mitchell, owner with my wife Christine of the long established Malcolm’s Take Note the book shop and stationer at the southern end of the shops.
We have owned our business for 25 years and have a long and vested interest in the strength of the surrounding retail area. Mairangi Bay is a lovely place to shop, live and work, with its award winning cafés and restaurants, the beach, parks and sports fields and excellent Art Centre, not forgetting our great free local magazine.
To keep our suburban village the great place we love requires strong support from the local community. The retail area especially is facing the biggest threats from the online shopping arena and expensive rents due to the growth in land values. This is why I as Chairman and our Mairangi Business Association members will as always be working to connect the community groups to the Bay and promote our beautiful village.
I am a local Lions club member and past president and Lions have a strong connection to the MBBA, being the organisers of the Christmas parade and the marshals for the fun run. Where there is a local public event in one way or another we are usually part of it.
If you wish your local village area to be vibrant and successful I invite you to participate in events, use your local shops and relax in the cafés. Our area is unique and to be enjoyed.
